Best Places to Live in New York City

Best Places to live in NYC

As the most recognizable city in the world, New York City (NYC) attracts much attention from both US citizens, in other cities and states, and people from all over the rest of the world.

This level of attention is only natural, considering the excitement surrounding Broadway, the buzz of Wall Street, the beauty of the city’s landscapes represented in many of our favorite movies, and the timeless Statue of Liberty.

In a city as diverse as New York, each location has not just its pros and cons but also its personality. You will, therefore, want to know the best places in NYC to live a comfortable life before you sign that lease.

Fortunately for you, we’ve compiled a list that will give you just the information you need about the best places to live in New York City. We’ve evaluated our choices according to various factors, including home affordability, crime rates, cultures, and ease of working.

Lower East Side, Manhattan

If affordability is a concern, the Lower East Side (LES) is a great option to look into. LES carries much historical significance, housing several historical buildings, such as the Tenement Museum, due to a large presence of European immigrants back in the late 19th and 20th centuries.

The area offers excellent dining, shopping, and entertainment options, along with the convenience of travel as well. You will find yourself having a pleasant time due to the neighborhood’s vibrance, lively nightlife, and music venues as well.

You would only be a few streets away from Chinatown if you’re looking for some delicious Chinese food options. Speaking of food, the LES is home to Katz’s Delicatessen, which has made quite the name for itself over the years by serving its pastrami sandwich. The lower east side of Manhattan also has great internet connections to offer, ones with national popularity, allowing residents to work from home without facing any trouble.

Midtown, Manhattan

Midtown might ring a bell for many people, owing to the Rockefeller Centre and the Empire State Building. You may want to avoid this location if you want peace, but there are a lot of benefits to living here.

There is absolutely no shortage of livelihood in this area, and this would be ideal for anyone wanting to live in newer, more luxurious high-rises. However, there are living options that will suit anyone and everyone, from studio apartments to apartments with twenty rooms.

Midtown is conveniently located right in the middle of Manhattan, making the areas around it very accessible. The area is close to several sites of interest, so you may not need to take the subway at all! If you want to take a break from the busy streets, the area also has several green spaces to go to relax, such as Bryant Park, which has fun events for families happening throughout the year. Because of its location, it has the best of the best options for internet options, such as Verizon.

Kenmore, Buffalo

Kenmore makes its way on our list primarily due to it giving you the best bang for your buck. The cost of living here is one of the lowest you’ll find for an area of this quality. If Midtown’s busy lifestyle is something you’re not interested in, Kenmore is on the opposite side of the spectrum and might seem more your style; the city has just a meager population of above 15,000 residents.

Kenmore easily climbs the ladder to being one of the most desired places to live in due to great internet connection options, such as Spectrum which offers a download speed of up to 1000Mbps. This makes remote working much easier in Kenmore, allowing potential residents to move in without worrying about finding a job nearby.

Despite its small size, it always has something going on and is ideal for families with kids. The public schools in the area are some of the best around and there are a lot of things to do for the kids’ entertainment, such as pools and parks. Local community events are abundant and often provide something for everyone. For a change of pace, you can also visit the city of Buffalo, which is only a short drive away.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

While Williamsburg might be a bit pricier than what’s ideal, it’s a choice that is worth it to many. Everything about the area gives off a young and carefree vibe, which is one that young adults and especially young professionals might appreciate.

The city wasn’t always bustling with life as it is now; it was primarily farmland and considered to be unsafe by many. However, affordable housing attracted many to move to the area, giving the area a much-needed uplift.

The city is now home to many artists (or hipsters), which is made even more apparent due to the large hand-painted murals made by them on many large buildings. With these affordable housing choices come reasonably priced, but highly effective, internet service providers that make living in Williamsburg even more desirable.

To make it all better, Williamsburg has an impressive number of dining and café options, with many Michelin-starred restaurants offering an exceptional variety of cuisines. The city’s location makes commuting to the busier parts of NYC easier as well, making it ideal for those who want to keep their work life and personal life separate.

Upper East Side, Manhattan

The priciest of our options – Upper East Side is an option that we felt would be a disservice to you to not include on this list. While you may be attracted to the area due to its shared vicinity with the iconic Central Park, be aware that the closer you are to it, the more you will be expected to pay for co-ops.

The neighborhood is big enough that you can find areas that are either as quiet or as lively and loud as you would like. If you ever find yourself bored, go ahead and take a walk down Madison Avenue. If you’re a foodie, you’ll be happy to know that the area has some of the best restaurants in the world! It’s ideal in terms of convenience as well, since you can walk to Central Park or the numerous museums that the city houses. The area is safe and developed enough that you can even walk to Midtown. And of course, internet connectivity is one of the best on the Upper East Side in all of the United States, whether it’s a public internet connection or your private one.

Takeaway

New York City is filled with personality and has something to offer to everyone. Wherever you decide to go, it will be in your best interest to make sure that the area matches your lifestyle.
